Several fronts cross over New Zealand during this forecast period, embedded in a disturbed westerly flow. These westerlies are likely to reach gale or possibly storm in many places on Thursday.

Monday: Northwest 15 knots but 20 knots east of Motiti Island, becoming 15 knots everywhere early evening,then easing to westerly 10 knots late evening. Moderate sea in the east,easing early evening. Fine spells, with fair visibility in a few showers.

Outlook until midnight Thursday: Tuesday: Rising to northwest 25 knots. Fine spells, few showers developing. Wednesday: Northwest rising to 30 knots in the morning, then changing westerly 25 knots in the afternoon. Showers becoming frequent and heavier for a time, clearing later. Thursday: Westerly 25 knots. Cloud increasing. Late showers.

Swell:

Swell forecast to midnight Thursday: Northerly half to 1 metre, rising to 1.5 metres for a time east of Motiti Island Wednesday.
