A ridge over the country moves to the east today as a complex low and associated fronts approach from the Tasman Sea. The low and fronts then affect the country until the end of the forecast period.

Outlook until midnight Wednesday: Monday: Turning northwest 15 knots early, rising to 20 knots late morning. Rain, easing to a few showers in the evening. Tuesday: Northwest 20 knots, changing westerly 20 knots in the afternoon, easing to 10 knots in the evening. Showers, some heavy and possible thunderstorms. Wednesday: Becoming northwest 20 knots early, rising to 30 knots later. Showers.
