Situation:

A high lies to the west of the North Island over the Tasman Sea for the forecast period. A front moves up the North Island today, as a ridge builds over the South Island. Another front moves up the South Island on Tuesday and over the North Island on Wednesday, then a third front moves onto the South Island and lower North Island Thursday, followed by another ridge.

GALE warnings for COOK and STEPHENS

Forecast:

Strong wind advisory. Monday: Northerly 20 knots changing southerly 30 knots gusting 40 knots during the morning. Southerly easing 20 knots gusting 30 knots in the afternoon and to southeast 10 knots in the evening. Sea becoming rough in the morning, easing in the evening. Fair visibility in a period of morning rain.

Outlook:

Outlook until midnight Thursday: Tuesday: Becoming northerly 20 knots during the morning. Changing southerly 25 knots in the evening. Mainly fine, but cloud and possible showers developing in the evening. Wednesday: Southerly 20 knots easing to 10 knots late. Becoming fine in the morning.
