Whangarei Boys' High School is set for a major upgrade after the government announced more than $50 million in funding for the school's infrastructure.
The money will be used to replace and upgrade the school buildings.
Education minister Nikki Kaye and Prime Minister Bill English visited the school this morning.
Boys' High board of trustees chairman Tim Robinson said the board had been investigating options for the school which have taken over four years to reach this outcome.

"Every architect and engineer that visited, uncovered new issues each time that had to factored in to a final design and costing."
Principal Karen Gilbert-Smith said: ''Having new facilities will enable us to have an environment that is inspirational and a curriculum that meets the needs of the students today and into the future."
