Wellington City councillor Helene Ritchie has her eye on Labour's safe Napier seat, which is being vacated by Deputy Speaker Geoff Braybrooke.
"I intend to win the Napier selection and seat. I have absolutely no intention of standing for Parliament anywhere else," she said.
Ms Ritchie could face stiff competition,as interest in the candidacy is expected to be high. Mr Braybrooke has held the seat since 1981, when he beat Ms Ritchie in the race for selection.
Napier lawyer Russell Fairbrother has also said he will seek nomination for the seat.
