Police hunting the killers of the Kahui twins say two family members have taken legal advice not to speak to police.
At a press conference today, police said the jigsaw was almost complete in the investigation into the deaths of the babies in June.
Chris and Cru Kahui died in
Auckland's Starship Children's Hospital on June 18, five days after the three-month-olds were taken to Middlemore Hospital in South Auckland with serious head injuries.
The man heading the murder hunt, Detective Senior Sergeant John Tims, said today two family members had still to be spoken to but the jigsaw was almost complete and he was confident someone would be charged.
He refused to put a timeframe on that.
Mr Tims would not say if more than one person would be charged with murder or manslaughter but once those charges had been laid police would look at the possibility of charging other family members with related crimes.
Earlier in the 16-week inquiry, he accused the family of stonewalling and deception and lies.
Today, he said two family members had yet to be fully interviewed but had taken legal advice.
"They have sought legal advice. That advice is not to talk to us. We need the truth, we need the truth, the whole truth," Mr Tims said.
"We still need to speak to a couple of family members."
The babies died from serious head injuries but both also had historic rib injuries and one had a broken thigh bone.
Police have been criticised for taking so long to make progress in their inquiries but Mr Tims said today he would not be rushed.
"We must be patient. We must be sure that we have a water-tight case before we charge and present it to the court."
