Teenager dies in hunting tragedy

An 18-year-old man has died after a weekend hunting accident near Nelson.

Ian Edward Greenhough, of Motueka, was shot on Friday night while on a hunting trip with friends and family in the Golden Downs Forest.

He was shot in the back after apparently being mistaken for a deer, and suffered serious internal injuries.

He died in Wellington Hospital on Saturday afternoon.

Police said the other five people in the hunting party would be interviewed in the next few days.
