A memorial event to mark the second anniversary of the February 22 earthquake will be held in Christchurch's Latimer Square, the city council announced today.
Family members of those who were killed, seriously injured survivors, members of the emergency services and the wider community will be invited.
Hagley Park hosted the two major memorial services just days after the killer earthquake, which claimed 185 lives, and also the first anniversary event this year.
But Latimer Square, the temporary home of many emergency service personnel from home and abroad who responded to the earthquake, has been selected as the location of the second anniversary service.
The service will coincide with the time of the earthquake - 12.51pm.
Mayor Bob Parker is pleased the commemorative service will focus on the community and hopes Cantabrians will again come together and be there for each other.
"While we experienced tremendous loss on February 22 and many in our community live daily with the effects of that day, we need to take the opportunity to remember the tremendous bravery and support we gave each other on that day," he said.
Further details will be announced in coming weeks.
