A search is underway for a fisherman who has been missing from a West Auckland beach for more than 24 hours.
Police received a report at 5pm yesterday from a relative saying the man, aged in his 50s, had gone fishing at Bethells Beach around midday but not returned.
He hasn't made contact with anyone since.
A spokeswoman said police have been conducting enquiries today in the Bethells Beach area.
The Eagle helicopter conducted an aerial search and Surf Life Saving have been assisting with the search, she said.
A Surf Life Saving Northern Region spokeswoman said four lifeguards assisted police with a land-based search for the missing person at Bethells Beach from 11.15am to 1.39pm.
The search is intended to resume tomorrow morning around 6.30am.
