A proposed $5 million film production studio complex near Queenstown could be the key to snaring a $250 million Hollywood romantic comedy for the South Island.
Hollywood-based television sitcom producers and directors Margie and Ray Liu, who own a home in Queenstown, have applied for resource consent to build two 1200sq m film production studios next to the Coronet Alpine Hotel, near Arthurs Pt.
Their studio plans and the associated application to subdivide 1.5ha off 6.15ha of land owned by Coronet Alpine Hotel will be advertised this weekend by the Queenstown Lakes District Council.
Mrs Liu said the Hollywood company planning the film had sent location scouts to the South Island and was serious about a Queenstown base for its three-year movie project.
