Police today named the Palmerston North man killed when his car collided with a truck and trailer unit near the city yesterday morning.
Christopher John Michael Bunn, 30, died at the scene of the crash on the Rangitikei Line, 2km from Palmerston North, about 10.45am.
Both vehicles were extensively damaged, but thedriver of the truck was uninjured.
The road around the crash site was closed for three hours while the scene was examined.
Police also today named the third victim of the country's weekend road crashes.
Palmerston North pedestrian Hamish Ross Pattie, 19, was killed after being hit by a car in the city's Square early on Saturday morning.
It appeared the car had been travelling between 50km/h and 60km/h.
Senior Sergeant Pete Thurston said a police investigation would be completed before charges were considered.
Waikanae woman Victoria Fahey, 31, was killed when her car was struck by a train at Te Horo rail crossing, 6km southwest of Otaki, on Saturday morning.
Karlyn White, 16, was killed when a car she was a passenger in plummeted 50m into a gorge at Papakura, Auckland, on Saturday night.
