Police are looking into a sudden death at a residential property on Anzac Rd in Pukekohe.
The Herald understands a digger had collapsed on the deceased, who was male.
A police spokesperson said they were notified of the incident at 12.13pm on Sunday.
"Inquiries are ongoing to determine the circumstances and the death will be referred to the coroner," he said.
An eyewitness said the incident happened in the back area of the yard.
He told the Herald he saw family members being escorted out of the house, but it is not known if they were related to the person who died.
He saw the police crime scene unit working at the scene.
Ambulance service St John was called but were not required for transportation as there was no patient, said a spokeswoman.
