A 35 year-old Balmoral man has been arrested and will appear in court tomorrow facing a murder charge after a young man's body was found in Panmure this morning.
Police were called to a flat on Jellicoe Rd in the east Auckland suburb at about 7am.
The body will be removed from the scene this evening and will undergo a post-mortem examination tomorrow, police said.
The 35 year-old man will appear in the Auckland District Court tomorrow.
At the scene this morning police personnel, some wearing white or blue jumpsuits and face masks, focussed on a cordoned off flat at the front of a housing area with about 16 dwellings.
Another young man, who lived at one of the flats behind the cordoned property, said he was unaware of this morning's grisly discovery.
"There's heaps of people who live down there, it could be anyone."
Two other neighbours - a woman and a man, said they had heard nothing, either.
The woman said she knew of no violence in the area.
"I've been burgled a few times, but nothing like this has happened since I've been here."
Earlier today, a St John spokeswoman said two ambulances attended the scene of an assault in Panmure at 6.50am.
A witness said he had seen about 10 police cars at the Jellicoe St property at about 8am.
Police are continuing to speak with witnesses from the scene which will be secured overnight for further examination tomorrow.
