SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE

Manukau City Council's Waitangi Day celebrations begin at 10am with powhiri and speeches, followed by entertainment that includes King Kapisi, Katchafire, Unity Pacific, rides and storytelling for kids, Maori and ethnic art and food, and a Treaty of Waitangi workshop at 1pm. Admission to Hayman Park in Manukau City is free.

OPEN DAY AT WAITAKERE MARAE

Four marae in Waitakere City open their doors to the community today. Hoani Waititi Marae on the corner of Parrs Cross and West Coast Rds, Te Piringatahi o te Maungarongo Marae in Royal View Rd, Te Atatu, Kakariki Marae at Green Bay High School in Godley Rd, and Kotuku Marae at Rutherford High School in Te Atatu will welcome visitors between 10am and 2pm.

DIVERSITY DELIGHTS AT ZOO DO

Kiwi Icon Day at Auckland Zoo celebrates the diversity of animals, people and cultures in this country. Conservation groups will showcase their work, you can enjoy Kiwi summer rituals (the barbecue, the cricket) and encounters of an avian kind at 11am and 3.30pm. Live music begins at 11am with Rikki Morris and the Believers, followed by Chill Factor and, from 5pm, the final ZooMusic concert features Don McGlashan and Geoff Chunn.

FUNKY NANAS ... BRING THE KIDS

Groove in the Park at noon with Nathan Haines, Bevan Keys, Peter Urlich and John Sa Trincha, at the band rotunda in Auckland Domain.

LANTERNS LIGHT UP FESTIVITIES

The Lantern Festival in Albert Park officially opens at 8pm today, but the display starts at 5pm. Food stalls, fortune telling, martial arts, fireworks and, of course, hundreds of lanterns are all part of the fun. The festival runs until Sunday, until 10.30 each evening. Admission is free.

BUSKFEST PLUS TREATY TIME IN THE CITY

There is a commemoration of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi in Aotea Sq from noon to 4pm. Music, speakers and videos help things along. While you're wandering through the city, watch out for buskers giving their all in streets and squares for Buskfest. Music, art, mime and magic enrich the city, with stage shows at the Viaduct Basin from 7pm to 10pm.
