The Overseas Investment Commission's (OIC) investigation into the sale of Pepin Island, north of Nelson, is expected to continue into next year.
Commission chief executive Stephen Dawe said it had received much information from the island's German owner, Viola Hallman, in response to OIC questions.
It would now go through the information, which would take well into the new year, he said.
The OIC is investigating why a tourism venture, which included three luxury bungalows proposed by Dr Hallman when she bought the island in 1995, never eventuated. She blames resource consent issues.
