A man was allegedly caught with 770g of cannabis in his car when he was stopped at a roadblock aimed at finding a bank robber.
Senior Sergeant Andy Meale said the car was stopped about 50km west of Whangarei on Tuesday as police searched for a man who robbed two Northland banks.
A bag of cannabis was found under the driver's seat along with a softball bat. During a search of the man's property, south of Kaikohe, police also allegedly found a firearm.
The 44-year-old Auckland builder was charged with possessing cannabis for supply, unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of an offensive weapon.
