Pollution signs go
Pollution warnings put up at all North Shore beaches after last week's deluge have been removed because daily water-quality readings now are well within the national guidelines. However, as a precaution, signs are still up at Hillcrest Stream, in Stancich Reserve, Northcote, and Lucas Creek, at the end of Pitoitoi Rd, in Albany. Testing will continue until the waterways are clear. For up-to-date results visit the North Shore city website or phone 0800 SAFESWIM (0800-723-379).
Arts initiatives
Auckland City is holding information sessions on guidelines for obtaining Creative Communities funding to support local community arts initiatives. Today's seminar is in the Freeman's Bay Community Centre function room at 52 Hepburn St, Freeman's Bay, from 6pm to 7pm. For information, call arts and funding adviser Kate Gallagher, phone 353-9602.
Pay-and-display
Pay-and-display parking will be introduced to the Western Reclamation and Quay Park areas of central Auckland during the next two months, but some unrestricted areas will be left for all-day parking. The Western Reclamation is bounded by Halsey St, Jellicoe St, Brigham St, Hamer St, Beaumont St, the eastern end of Westhaven Drive, and Fanshawe St. Quay Park is between Beach Rd and The Strand and Quay St.
Transport planning
Infrastructure Auckland invites Aucklanders to have a say in its annual planning process. The body is the guardian and distributor of close to $1 billion for the region's stormwater and transport projects. May 16 is the closing date for submissions on the draft annual plan. Copies of the plan will be available online from the end of next week at the Infrastructure Auckland website and, in printed form, from the second week in April. Infrastructure Auckland is at level 13, 155 Queen St, Auckland. For information on how to make a submission or to have a copy of the draft plan posted out, phone (09) 366-9552.
Libraries line
North Shore City has improved access to its libraries with the introduction of a new website, www.shorelibraries.govt.nz. It gives access to all the new books, CDs, videos and magazines that the library buys, as well as being able to display items in large print. Library members can log in to check books on loan, renew items and request that items be held for them. For information, phone 486-8472.
Panmure upgrade
The development of the Panmure town centre is in its final phase, and two community consultation meetings are planned so that residents can be involved in the upgrade. The first of these is today, at 7pm, in the Panmure Community Centre, 1 Pilkington Rd, Panmure. The second is at the same time and place on April 3. Submission forms and a display of the plans are available at the Mt Wellington Community Library, 7-13 Pilkington Rd, Panmure, from today until April 3.
