Job title: Financial controller, Catholic Diocese of Auckland.
Chartered accountant Errol Burn, 35, has married his faith and his career in his new position at the Catholic Diocese of Auckland, which oversees a multimillion-dollar infrastructure. He was attracted to the role by its diversity: the church's infrastructure supports educational, pastoral and evangelising services.
The diocese is a major landowner, with 40 primary schools, nine colleges and tertiary institutions. Then there are 66 parishes, as well as chaplaincies to more than 30 ethnic groups, hospitals, prisons and communities.
Burn admits the diocese is vastly different from his previous experience, which includes stints in retail, data systems and new technologies, energy and transport. His last post was in London as finance controller for a telephone-based interpreting service.
But the new role combines "a challenging career opportunity with that extra dimension of service in my personal faith".
Adjustment has been required. Burn says there is a tangible difference in the way people are motivated. The driving force seems to be geared to the common good. Burn has had some previous community services involvement, which is helping him to get a grip on church pastoral work.
Auckland-born and raised, he is an old boy of De La Salle College and gained a commerce degree at the University of Auckland.
