A move to adopt American playground safety standards has been dumped because they would make play areas too boring.
About two-thirds of 460 submissions opposed adopting the standards, said Standards New Zealand project manager Ruth Heather.
Ms Heather said a committee, which included education, child safety, Government and local government representatives as well as play equipment manufacturers, recommended a revision of the Australian/New Zealand playground standards, which could take two years.
