A "bomb" at the Inland Revenue Department in Rotorua this morning, which resulted in a central city street being cordoned off for more than an hour, turned out to be a small box of documents.
An Inland Revenue Department staff member noticed the parcel at about 7 am and alerted the police.
Police said the staff member was concerned the parcel might be a bomb because it did not have any courier markings on it.
Arawa Street was cordoned off and people were evacuated from the street's buildings.
A bomb squad from Auckland were also alerted.
However Sergeant Joe Cairns said another staff member told the police just before 8 am they had left the parcel in the building the night before and it was not a bomb.
