A 22-year-old man is being treated in hospital after the car he was driving plunged upside-down into the sea in Auckland early today.
The accident on Tamaki Drive happened near the Lilliputt mini golf course about 1am.
A passerby pulled the injured Mt Roskill man from the upturned 1990 Honda Civic and he and another passerby began reviving him.
The man was taken to Auckland Hospital.
Two others in the car were unhurt. Another passenger left the scene before police arrived and police were this morning still looking for that person.
Police would like to hear from any witnesses who saw the car being driven between Mission Bay and the mini-golf course.

Warbirds over Wanaka
Hundreds of aviation enthusiasts turned out to see some impressive aircraft in action yesterday at a preview of the Warbirds over Wanaka show this weekend. The popular event had been grounded for the past six years, partly because of Covid pandemic restrictions. This Easter weekend it returns, with a sellout crowd of more than 60,000 people set to attend today and tomorrow. Photos / George Heard
