Police have received reports that a person has died suddenly at a property in the far north this morning.
The Herald understands a young child died in a water-related incident.
A police spokesperson said emergency services responded to a report of a sudden death at an Awanui property around 11.15am.
They said inquiries into the circumstances were ongoing, and there was no further information at this stage.
A neighbour, who did not wish to be identified, said he saw the Northland rescue helicopter land in paddock near the house about 10am to join two police cars and an ambulance.
He noted the scene didn't seem rushed or panicked, and all emergency services had left when he drove past 90 minutes later.
