A toddler who died in a drowning incident on Monday afternoon has been described as a cheeky young boy.
Police were called to the property near Riverhead, northwest of Auckland city, around 4pm on after a child drowned in a pool at a private address.
The three-year-old, called Dawson, is described as a "bubbly cheeky wee monkey" on a Givealittle page set up to help cover funeral costs.
Next door neighbour Emma Carboon set up the Givealittle page, asking for people to kindly donate to the family.
"Dawson was a bubbly cheeky wee monkey 3-year-old boy who tragically drowned at a private property on the 18th of March 2019," the page reads.
"His family would deeply appreciate any support you can provide to help cover funeral costs."
Nearly $2000 has been donated by around 40 people, many of whom have passed on their condolences to the family.
"I am so very sorry. Sending love and condolences to beautiful Dawson's family," one donor wrote.
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and all your family at this sad time," said another.
On Monday evening, a St John spokesman said four ambulances attended the property but no one was transported to hospital.
