Police are seeking a man who sexually assaulted a woman after breaking into her Hamilton home early this morning.

The man also physically assaulted her young daughter, Detective Senior Sergeant Dean Anderson said.

He was unknown to the woman and entered her home between 7am and 7.45am on Sunday morning.

The man then left the Croall Crescent address in St Andrews, cut across neighbouring properties, and ran into the grounds of the Hamilton Junior High School on Heath Street.

Hamilton police were seeking the public's help in finding the man, who has been described as Maori, in his mid-20s, short with stocky shoulders, clean shaven with short dark hair.

He was wearing a red T-shirt, black long pants and black shoes.

"If anyone has information about this man, or may have seen anyone matching this description in the Heath Street, Bryant Road or Sandwich Road areas around this time on Saturday morning, please contact Hamilton Police," Anderson said.
