Rescuers working into the night have reached a climber who was injured by a rockfall on Mt Taranaki yesterday afternoon.
Police were alerted at 2.30pm on Saturday that the 39-year-old woman suffered injuries to her arm while descending the mountain.
The search and rescue controller, Senior Constable Peter Lawn, said an alpine rescue team had reached the injured woman and her climbing companion around 12.15am.
"They have been assisted to Syme Hut where they stayed overnight", Lawn said.

"The Taranaki Rescue Helicopter was able to winch a paramedic to Syme Hut earlier in the evening but due to cloud conditions was unable to reach the pair."
The woman will be choppered out this morning if weather permits.
The four rescuers - two teams of two - had hoped to reached the pair some time between 10 and 11pm last night. They had only a rough idea of where the climbers were, on the south side of the mountain.
Taranaki Alpine Cliff Rescue secretary Scott Chamberlain said the pair had also lost their way on the mountain - they had been on a poled route and could no longer find the poles.
