Police are investigating after a woman reported she had been assaulted at Cornwall Park in Hastings.
Detective Sergeant Daryl Moore said the woman had arranged to meet a man via social media in the park at about 10.30pm last night.
Police were making enquiries to identify the alleged offender and anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anything suspicious or has information that could help was urged to contact police.
The alleged incident happened near the park's Chinese Gardens and detectives have taped off an area near the duck pond on the Tomoana Rd side of the popular park. Police photographers were also at the park this morning.
A Tomoana Rd shop owner said she was surprised to hear of the incident and had not seen any police activity from where she worked.
"I would have thought you would see lights or something, but there doesn't seem to be too much. It just looks normal down there," she said.
Anyone with information can call Detective Sergeant Daryl Moore on 06 873 0531 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
