A cyclist who was involved in a crash with a car in Te Atatu in Auckland has died.
Police were called to the scene at 8.10pm, a spokeswoman said. She said the cyclist's condition was initially reported as critical, but later confirmed the person had died of their injuries at the scene.
A witness at the scene around 8.30pm said they had seen a person covered by a white sheet.
The crash happened on Te Atatu Rd, between Cellarmans Street and Vinograd Drive, heading toward Te Atatu Peninsula.
Both sides of the wide main road have a dedicated cycle lane.
Ambulance and police vehicles are at the scene, the witness said. The road and footpath have been blocked off with tape and traffic is being diverted.
There is a heavy police presence on the street, and an officer is diverting traffic from Te Atatu Rd down Vinograd Drive.
The Serious Crash Unit is at the scene and is investigating.
