Police are investigating an illegally parked truck as the cause of a two-car crash Tuesday, at 12.50pm on Taupo Quay in Whanganui.
Police constable Nick Martell said a car transporter truck was illegally parked on the river-side of Taupo Quay when a female driver pulled out in front of the truck and was hit by a vehicle heading south.
"The truck could be a potential cause of the crash due to the obstructing view so there was difficulty to give way and we are looking into that being a contributing factor," Mr Martell said.
He said two people were involved, the female driver and a male driver heading south, but luckily no one was hurt.
"A part from a big fright neither of them were injured but both cars were written off."
Five police cars were rushed to the scene located just south of the BP service station on Taupo Quay.
A witness driving past moments after the crash said she saw one of the cars "smashed up" on the side of the road and it looked pretty bad.
"Police were directing cars to drive around the smashed car because the crash site was covering most of the road," the witness told the Chronicle.
A police spokeswoman said the road was still partially closed off as of 2.15pm.
