A crash on the southwestern motorway near the airport turnoff is causing major delays this evening.

The three-car crash happened in a northbound lane of Auckland's Southwestern Motorway around 6pm, police said.

No one was reported to be seriously injured but the crash was blocking the right-hand lane between the Massey Rd onramp and Coronation Rd offramp, just after the turnoff toward the airport.

Police are still on the scene.

The New Zealand Transport Agency said northbound traffic was heavy between Massey Rd and Neilson St in Onehunga.

Commuters should expect "large delays", the NZTA said.

A burst water main at the intersection of Walmsley Rd and Kaka St in nearby Otahuhu is also causing congestion on residential roads, with drivers warned to avoid the area if possible.

The water main was expected to be fixed by 9pm.
