A man has been arrested after the car he was driving rolled and was found upside down in the middle of a road in Otago, following numerous reports of dangerous driving.
Police in the Roxburgh and Alexandra area responded to a number of driving complaints from members of the public concerned about a silver car seen dangerously overtaking on blind corners and driving at excessive speed this afternoon.
While trying to find the car, police and emergency services were alerted to a single vehicle crash on State Highway 8 at 5.45pm.
The silver car that prompted the complaints had rolled and was upside down in the middle of the road.
The 21-year-old male driver was arrested at the scene for dangerous driving.
Both occupants of the car were uninjured. The road was blocked for around an hour while the scene was cleared.
The man is due to appear in the Queenstown District Court tomorrow.
Police have asked that drivers slow down and drive to the conditions in Otago tonight, as wintry weather and a hard frost was anticipated, making roads icy.
Police want to thank members of the public who called or approached them at the scene of today's crash. They have also encouraged any other witnesses who have not yet spoken to police to report to Alexandra Police Station or phone (03) 440 2500.
