A Ngatea house was extensively damaged in a suspicious fire last night.
The Orchard East Rd house went up in flames following the suspected arson about 11.40pm last night.
The house was engulfed in flames when emergency services arrived.
Two people were able to escape from the burning house and were treated for smoke inhalation at Thames Hospital last night. They have since been released.
Police would like to speak to two young men who stopped to assist as they were driving past the house and saw the flames, and any witnesses who might have seen anything suspicious in the area last night.
Police and a fire investigator conducted a scene examination today.
