A man is facing a serious assault charge after a 43-year-old man was repeatedly stabbed in Paeroa last night.
Police were called to a Bush St property in the Thames Valley shortly before 11pm to find a small group of people had been fighting, a police spokeswoman said.
The victim had been stabbed repeatedly in the fight. He was airlifted to Waikato Hospital.
Police said his injuries included a punctured lung and he remained in a serious but stable condition.
A 28-year-old man was arrested a short distance from where the stabbing took place.
Detective Sergeant Terri Wilson said he was very pleased the man was apprehended without causing further harm to himself or anyone else.
The man appeared in Hamilton District Court this morning charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
He was remanded in custody to reappear on Tuesday.
