A fire at a vineyard near Nelson has closed part of the Appleby Highway.
Emergency services were called to Waimea Estates at 6am, where a fire is believed to have started in a cafe's kitchen.
No one was injured in the blaze.
The highway is closed between Three Brothers Corner and McShane Rd.
Nine crews from surrounding areas attended the fire, which has now been extinguished.
Motorists are still advised to avoid the area and use Lower Queen St, or alternative routes to Motueka and Golden Bay.
Emergency services remain at the scene and a fire investigator has been notified.
