A fire has broken out at a Harvey Norman on Auckland's North Shore.

The Fire Service was alerted to the fire on the first floor of Harvey Norman on Croffield Lane in Wairau Valley just after 8pm.

A northern Fire Service spokesman said three fire engines were sent to battle the blaze and ventilate the building. It was almost under control as of 8.30pm.

The spokesman said the fire was no threat to public safety.

The store's automatic sirens alerted the Fire Service to the blaze.
