A 5-year-old boy has been airlifted to Auckland's Starship Hospital with chest and spinal injuries after being run over in his driveway in Te Kauwhata.
The Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Te Kauwhata this afternoon after the boy was accidentally run over by his mother.
"Unbeknownst to his mother the child was running next to the car while holding on to the rear door handle, when he tripped, falling under the rear wheel as the car was pulling forward, out of the driveway," a rescue helicopter spokeswoman said.
The boy was flown with his mother to hospital with chest and suspected spine injuries.
A spokeswoman for Starship Hospital said the boy was still in hospital in a stable condition.
