Police are still hunting a gunman this morning, more than 24 hours after a lone police officer was shot at.
Detective Inspector Uraia Vakaruru said yesterday police were looking for Patrick Dixon, a 30-year-old Maori, in connection with the 4am shooting in Manurewa yesterday.
A senior police officer escaped injury in the terrifying incident, in which a series of shots were fired at his patrol car during a short pursuit.
Dixon is described as being of medium build and 177cm tall. He has a tribal tattoo on his left arm and a tattoo on the left side of his neck. He is believed to have connections in Counties-Manukau and the Whangamata and Waihi areas.
He already has warrants to arrest for unlawful carriage and possession of a firearm, and police warn he should not be approached.
Anyone with information should contact Counties Manukau Police on (09) 261 1300 or call 111. Information can also be provided anonymously through CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111.
