A patch of what appears to be blood has stained the concrete footpath below a balcony from which a partygoer is believed to have fallen on Friday night.
A fire engine was called into action in Mt Eden, Auckland yesterday afternoon to boost a police investigation into the incident.
An officer was hoisted up to the balcony of an apartment above shops on the corner of Auckland's busy Mt Eden Rd and Esplanade Rd, so he could examine it for fingerprints.
The dusting at the building was above where a man was found injured on Friday night.
A police spokeswoman said they were investigating after the man was found on the footpath "with a number of injuries, mostly broken bones".
"Our inquiries found that there had been a party at the property and whilst we're just concluding the investigation, we're confident that there were no suspicious circumstances," she said.
"We have interviewed the person concerned."
A neighbour and staff in nearby shops were unaware of what had happened on the night, with one worker saying he believed there were young men living in the apartment.
Another person said he had heard a party on Friday night, but was unaware of what had happened.
