The person who died in a crash in Katikati on Sunday has been named.
Jee Yang Chu, aged 66, a visitor from Malaysia, was a passenger in one of the cars in the crash on State Highway 2, near Katikati, at 3.30pm on Sunday.
Four other people were hospitalised in the crash. Two women, aged 29 and 66, and a man aged 64, were in stable conditions at Tauranga Hospital yesterday.
Police inquiries into the crash are continuing.
One of the victims killed in a deadly weekend on the country's roads has been named as Jee Yang Chu, 66, visiting from Malaysia.
She was a passenger in a Holden that crossed the centreline and collided with an oncoming car and culvert on State Highway 2, near Katikati at 3.30pm on Sunday.
Four others were also injured, one seriously, in the two-car crash.
Ms Chu's death was one of seven road fatalities at the weekend, which was the second-highest road toll weekend of the year and pushed the national road toll to 305, 33 higher than the same time last year.
