Budding newsreaders now have the chance to look the part - Judy Bailey is donating one of her prized news-reading jackets to a charity auction in Auckland.
The former presenter has given one of the blazers she wore on One News to Hospice West Auckland to sell as part of its annual fashion show fundraiser. Bailey said the Adrienne Winkelmann jacket had "great shoulders", which was always a good thing for a newsreader to have.
"This was one of my favourite jackets, it's from the late 90s or early 2000s. I wore it several times on One News."
The broadcaster said she had a number of friends who had received hospice care and believed it was the "most wonderful" service.
"I want to help hospice any way I can. A lot of people don't realise that most of Hospice's work takes place in the community, in people's own homes."
Hospice West Auckland chief executive Barbara Williams donated a designer dress from the Australian label Lounge, and said while the dress had not been worn to read the news, it had been to many "wonderful" charity events over the years and was very special to her.
Hospice West Auckland is calling for designer donations from the public, which will be modelled on the catwalk in the charity's fashion show, or sold in its clothes sale. The event is on August 1 at the Te Atatu Community Centre.
