The death of a 7-month-old Hamilton girl who was admitted to hospital with serious and unexplained injuries has been referred to the coroner.
The infant, who died on Thursday, was Hinepukohurangi Emery-Kohunui.
After a post-mortem examination in Auckland yesterday, police said the little girl's death was no longer unexplained nor were there any suspicious circumstances.
Police, who were at the Frances St unit continuing their inquiries yesterday, have not revealed the nature of the baby's injuries but said her death had been referred to the coroner.
Police and ESR specialists had been at the Housing New Zealand unit on the corner of Peachgrove Rd and Frances St since Wednesday.
Police said the baby's parents, whom the Weekend Herald understands are in their mid-20s, were co-operative during the investigation.
A neighbour said he was extremely saddened by the couple's loss.
"I just hope they can move on from this tragedy which it is, it's a bloody awful thing to happen," the neighbour said.
