Why do drivers, especially those in large SUVs, feel they need to come to a complete stop before mounting low speed humps at the entrance to supermarket car parks?

I thought that I might have left my camera in its bag on a Metrolink bus last Tuesday afternoon but it was not until Friday morning that I was able to confirm that it was missing. One call to the Mt Roskill depot confirmed that they had it. All appreciation to the finder, the driver and the company. Auckland rules!

Why can't New Zealand drivers learn the rules about which turn signals to use, if any, approaching a roundabout? Is it rocket science? I've lost count of the times I've approached a local roundabout intending to go straight across from the 12 o'clock position and stopped to allow a car at the 9 o'clock position showing a right indicator, to pass in front of me, only to see that car pass down my right-hand side into the road I am exiting, with or without a left-hand indicator, i.e. I stopped unnecessarily.

Full marks to the people from Recreational Services, Auckland Council, who empty the bins each morning at Mairangi Bay beach. The seagulls often have a field day and scatter the bin contents all over the grass. The bin emptiers are required to empty the bins but these guys pick up all the debris that is scattered far and wide as well. Beyond the call of duty and much appreciated.

To the people who carry on about banning trucks from the right lane of motorways: I guess you've never had building materials delivered and your groceries just fall out of the sky and land in the stores.

As a neighbour grounded at the site of the triple stabbing in Albany on Thursday, I want to pay tribute to the neighbours and passersby who stopped to help the three victims. By the time I noticed something amiss, there were several people on their mobiles getting help, others helping and comforting the three hurt people. They were amazing. The police came quickly and their responses were quick, co-ordinated and efficient. Professionals.
