9.30pm update: Power has now been restored to thousands of Auckland homes after an outage earlier this evening left them in the dark as stormy weather batters the city.
Earlier this evening, at least 18,000 home were affected by the outage centred in St Johns, east Auckland.
Other suburbs affected included Mt Wellington Ellerslie, Remuera, Mission Bay, Glendowie and Panmure. Power to those homes was restored about 7.30pm.
Orakei was the last suburb to have its power restored about 9.15pm.
"We were able to get in there very quickly and back-feed," said Vector spokeswoman Sandy Hodge.
Wild weather was causing unsafe conditions for Vector crews but they managed to restore power.
"Auckland's weather continues to cause issues and crews will not work if unsafe to do so," said Hodge.
It was thought the cut was caused by water damage at a sub-station in St Johns as a result of bad weather.
Power was also cut to other parts of Auckland, including 636 households in Dairy Flat.
At least 211 homes in Laingholm were also left in the dark after a car crashed into a police. Power to those areas have now been restored.
