A man has been found unconscious in a south Auckland street with "unexplained" injuries.
The 24-year-old was discovered in the early hours of this morning by a member of the public near the intersection of Princes St and Beatty St, Pukekohe, police said.
He was taken to Middlemore Hospital, where he remains in a serious condition.
The man had sustained an injury "that is currently unexplained", Detective Senior Sergeant Albie Alexander of Counties Manukau Police said.
An investigation into how it happened has been launched.
His next of kin have been identified, and police have contacted them. However, his name would not be released at this stage, Mr Alexander said.
"A scene examination of the location where the man was found is underway," he said.
"We're also conducting an area canvass which includes door-to-door enquiries in the surrounding areas."
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 09 263 2709.
