Auckland households will pay 2.4 per cent more for water and wastewater charges from July.
Watercare Services has announced the price of water will increase from $1.343 to $1.375 per 1000 litres of water, and wastewater charges will rise from $2.281 per 1000 litres to $2.336.
The fixed charge will rise 2.6 per cent from $190 per year to $195.
The company said it was the first rise in two years and would see the average household's combined water and wastewater bill increase by less than $2 per month.
Chief finance officer Brian Monk said Watercare Services had been able to delay raising its prices since it took over the retail operations of the former councils in 2010, but it could no longer absorb increased capital and operating costs.
The water company is also raising non-domestic water and wastewater charges by an average of 2.4 per cent.
The company's "infrastructure growth charge" for new connections in urban Auckland will increase by 23.5 per cent from $9775 to $12,075 and by an average of 2.4 per cent for rural connections, depending on location.
