A woman was injured when she was thrown from the back of a ute doing donuts on a beach.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called to the incident on Karioitahi Beach, near Port Waikato, at 5.30pm on Friday.
Helicopter manager Greg Brownson said the woman had been riding on the back of a ute when she was thrown off onto sand.
He said it appeared the vehicle had been doing donuts on the beach.
"When we got there you could see the donuts [tracks] all the way up the beach," he said.
The woman, who was thought to be about 19, appeared to have concussion, and was taken to Auckland Hospital with moderate injuries.
Yesterday the rescue helicopter also winched a 53-year-old female tramper out of dense bush near Colville on the Coromandel Peninsular.
The woman had injured her back in a fall while tramping and had to be winched out of the area.
Mr Brownson said the crew hiked into the woman's location and had to clear an area for her to be winched out.
"It was quite a difficult job."
The woman was taken to Auckland Hospital in serious condition.
