A brawl involving up to 40 teenagers near Kuirau Park has seen 15 people arrested at the weekend.
Bay of Plenty Police District Acting Senior Sergeant Courtney Brunt told the Rotorua Daily Post yesterday that four youths were charged with disorderly behaviour and fighting related offences on Saturday.
Police responded to reports of a large group of people, many of them under 15-years-old, fighting near the intersection of Ranolf and Pukuatua Streets, Mr Brunt said.
The remaining 11 people who were arrested, but not charged, were taken back to their parents, or caregivers, by police, he said.
A large number of people also fled as police arrived.
This comes just nine days after another brawl was witnessed in the CBD on Boxing Day.
Up to 40 young people were involved, some of whom were between 10 and 15 years old.
Rotorua mother Debbie Potaka is one of a number of concerned locals who has had enough of the fights in Rotorua.
She held a meeting last Friday at McDonald's on Fenton St, where she invited concerned community members to discuss ways of stopping these fights, such as offering free activities for youth during the Christmas period.
She said 15 people including Rotorua business owners, lawyers, teachers and parents attended the meeting, which ran for about two hours.
Ms Potaka said they would hold another meeting on January 28, in the meeting room at McDonald's, Fenton St, at 6pm.
She said anyone could come along and put forward their ideas for ways to engage children in the community.
"I want to see free activities for children during the Christmas period when other programmes are closed."
Ms Potaka said she didn't want to comment on the latest incident because she didn't know anything about it.
