A man seriously injured in a car crash in Ashburton on November 16 has died in Christchurch Hospital.
The man was Sailasa Vakalala, 61, of Timaru.
Mr Vakalala and his wife Asenaca Vakalala were driving on East Street, near Cox Street, on November 16 when they were hit by a four-wheel drive while attempting to perform a u-turn.
Mr Vakalala was cut from the vehicle and taken to Ashburton Hospital and later transferred to Christchurch Hospital via the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
In the day's following the crash Mrs Vakalala spoke to the Guardian, thanking the members of the public who had come to her husband's assistance following the crash.
She said her husband had indicated to perform the u-turn and the vehicle that hit them came out of nowhere.
Mr Vakalala has already been farewelled at a funeral service in Timaru.
Ashburton Police senior sergeant Grant Russell said Mr Vakalala's death had been referred to the coroner.
