One of the most expensive boats in New Zealand is getting a $50 million makeover.
Super-yacht Weta, the pride and joy of billionaire Graeme Hart, is in Whangarei, where local firm Culham Engineering has the contract for the do-up, believed to be an extensive refit.
The luxury, 77m yacht featured exterior design by Michael Leach and her interior was designed by Loro Piana Interiors.
It can accommodate a dozen guests in six cabins and has a crew of 25.
Weta was towed from Iquique, Chile, two years ago. It was moored for more than a year next to Silo Park in Auckland's Wynyard Quarter.
The enormous vessel kept a low profile, its grey exterior in contrast to the flashy foreign-owned superyachts moored nearby.
The Business Herald said Weta required complete interior and exterior fitting, making it one of the largest super-yachts to be fitted out in New Zealand.
Both Culham and the famously private tycoon - worth more than $6 billion according to the Forbes Rich List - declined to comment this week.
