Two people were hospitalised for suspected smoke inhalation after an early morning fire in Happy Valley at Wellington today.
The home on the corner of Landfill Rd and Happy Valley Rd was well alight when firefighters arrived about 1.30am.
It took four appliances to extinguish the blaze.
The two people were taken to Wellington Hospital in a moderate condition.
Investigators will be at the home today to establish what started the fire.
Meanwhile, a fire that engulfed an abandoned home in a Christchurch red zone is being treated as suspicious.
Fire Service southern communications spokesman Andrew Norris said the 3am blaze destroyed the two-storey home on River Rd in the suburb of Richmond.
Mr Norris said the house had been destined for demolition but the fire was still being investigated and was believed to have been deliberately lit.
