Three teenaged men have been arrested following an alleged serious assault on an Invercargill man in Russell Square early on Sunday morning.
The 42-year-old victim had just left the South City Night 'N Day shop when he was attacked without warning between 2am and 2.30am.
Police said he was repeatedly kicked and punched by the attackers and suffered serious facial injuries, including a broken nose and fractured eye socket.
Two passers-by came to the victim's aid, however one of these men was also attacked and hit with a bottle.
Two 19-year-olds and a 17-year-old have been arrested and will appear in the Invercargill District Court today, charged with injuring with intent to injure causing grievous bodily harm.
Detective Scott MacKenzie of the Invercargill CIB thanked the public for their assistance, saying information provided from the public had been crucial to making the arrests.
